• One Year of Mixtapes (Just for YOU)

    29 Abr 2008, 4:22 de laura_mac

So, I first would like to acknowledge pzantingh, also of the Monthly Mixtape community, from whom I brazenly stole this brilliant idea. The thing is, I make these mixtapes every month to send to one person. Occasionally, I'm proud enough of them to post them on the community board, but I still feel that they're being wasted to a certain extent. Also (to a lesser extent), I want the constructive criticism that inevitably comes from exposing your work to the much wider audience of musical sticklers that is Last.fm. Finally, a blog of this kind gives me the chance to make some of that cool cover art that everyone seems to like so much.

A couple of caveats: I won't tell you which ones are which, but there are definitely some of these mixes I'm more proud of than others. Looking back, there are definitely some things I would have changed, but I've put them up in their original condition, warts and all. You will also notice that there is no mixtape for November of last year. …

    Little Room

well you're in your little room
    you're working on something good
    but if it's really good
you're gonna need a bigger room

when you're in your bigger room
you might not know what to do
you might have to think of
    how you got started
    sitting in your little room

I like the hidden meaning(s) to this song
  • Songs That Press My Happy Buttons

    16 Oct 2006, 8:52 de Cavale

There are certain songs that I listen to, and they just immediately make me giddy. It might be a certain turn of phrase in the lyrics, the theme of the song, singability, or just the beauty of the music itself. Either way, I decided to go through all of the music I have on my computer and write down their names.

Here's the resulting list (To Be Completed):

Run = This song is sweet, and romantic. And the effects on the voice are amazing.
Sweet Road= The first Animal Collective song I ever heard, and still my favorite. The sounds of children playing put pretty images in my head.
Love Is Evil = My current favorite song. There's nothing not to love about it. The way he sings "Love is evil", the Japanese rapping, the psychedelic nonsensical rapping about Blinky Bill at the end. This song is perfection.
Sugarless = The first time I heard this song and really payed attention to it was at the end of a very bad day, and it just fit so perfectly that I fell in love with it.

Step 1: Open up your music collection in whatever MP3 program you use.
Step 2: Put it on random.
Step 2: Post the first lines from the first 30 songs that are played, not matter how embarassing.
Step 4: Bold out the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

(I'll admit I skipped a few, ones with no words/way too obvious/people would never get at all)

1- Yeah we bringin' you the hardcore, the real raw type shit
2- Yes this is the campaign, slithered entrails in the cargo bay (One Armed Scissor)
3- You've got me dancin' and cryin'
4- You just can't believe me, when I show you what you mean to me
5- Laaaaa, lovely to see you (Lovely 2 C U)
6- Baby make your move, step across the line
7- He said you're just as boring as everyone else (Positive Tension)
8- Uh-huh, make me tonight (Atomic)
    9- I never tire, I never stop
10- Sat at the side of the pool at one of your houses
11- Don't be scared just be prepared for the worst

  • Song of the Day: Archive I

For more recent Song of the Day selections, check my profile. Assuming I actually manage to keep this updated (not likely), I'd like to make the archives a monthly thing.

I very strongly considered making the return to updates today, but it was my birthday two days ago and I got Killer 7 for GameCube, so I'm going to play that. However, I will offer a preview of what you can expect in the very near future by letting you in on the CDs I got for the b-day:
"Kicking Bird: Music From the Motion Picture" (It won't let me enter this as an album because I'm probably the only person on Last.fm who's heard of this.)
Two burned CDs (Various artists; these can't be entered as albums either because hey aren't. If you actual care about what music I'm listening to and were looking for a legitimate preview of future Songs of the Day, my apologies)
    Oh, Inverted World
"The Best of the Crack" - The Crack (You also don't know this music, but you should, because it is amazing. …
