Wed 24 Oct – Sinéad O'Connor, Damien Dempsey

This was my first time at Strathmore Music Center, which is a venue that's better known for its symphonic performances than ones by pop artists. It was a great space, however; even though the architecture was quite modern (think Scandinavian light-stained wood everywhere), the proportions & design made it feel like an old-time theater, complete with intimate boxes on the upper levels. We were in the fourth row.

Damo came on at about 8:20, and played the first three tracks solo. He introduced himself as being from Dublin, home to such famous people as James Joyce and, especially, Arthur Guinness. He noted that his family have been patrons of Guinness's products since the 1700s, and that Guinness was responsible for his conception. :) There were a couple catcalls of Damo from the back of the crowd when he walked on, but on the whole, the crowd hadn't heard of him. My wife, who'd only heard him a few times when I played his music in the car…
