on my first listen of the new album and I can certifiably say this is the best release since the self-titled album, maybe since IDOTG. I haven't listened to the band much lately but DAMN I love this album so far.
First listen to the new album and I enjoyed it, the next few I started to worry if actually I didn't like it very much. Then out of fucking nowhere it clicked and I just can't stop listening to it. Wire Mom is one of the best songs Max has released in a long time. Also, new Two Tongues record in the making
I find it kind of funny that so many people hated Hebrews even though it was more of a return of form for Say Anything, and it took a crazy left turn into completely new territory to get the old fans back into the band. I love this band so much.
@conditionals agreed. In no way am I criticizing Max's lifestyle or opinions as of late, but regarding the music itself, I was hoping for a bit more....progression. IDK, maybe I just got a little older. Still have burning love for the first couple albums.
"Sadly, after some time has passed, I must admit it has gone downhill ever since the self-titled album. Shame, since IARB and IDOTG are basically masterpieces" - I love the self-titled too. The last two albums have just been lacking... something. Honestly I think Max's voice has changed and it's throwing me off.
if there is anything we can take away from AMD, it would be the accuracy of the lyrics in Admit It Again. not that anyone would agree, since a lot of people he's talking about in the song frequent Last FM.
there are some really great songs on the new album. nibble nibble is so mentally disturbing which is a fantastic thing in music. i love that max refers to his older work in a lot of the songs. musically, i feel like this album sounds a lot like IDOTG. i love hebrews so far.
This albums is him basically saying we'll never get another Is A Real Boy and that's a damn shame.. I'm one of the people he wrote this album about lol. I still think IARB is a masterpiece but damn it sucks that Max was struggling in his life during that time because that album is fucking beautiful.
Better than AMD. There's some decent early tracks but it drops off hard during the second half and there's still so many cheesy moments and unfortunate guest spots. Wish he would find something other than his critics to sing about.
I didn't really like the new album after my first listen, but it has grown on me so much after giving it some (actually, a lot) more of my time. It's probably my third favourite album of 2014 right now, behind The Hotelier's "Home, Like Noplace Is There" and Modern Baseball's "You're Gonna Miss It All." Also, IARB > S/T > Hebrews = IDOTG > AMD > Baseball
