Recently been listening to these guys again, though nothing newer than Made in USA... Heavy Metal Thunder isn't quite one of my top albums anymore, though Ignition/BBQMike are still great. Anyone else notice how much screechier Anchang has gotten over the years? His lower register is great though he should embrace it more
The j-rock and the more prevalent j-pop tags are huge umbrella terms when it comes to categorizing Japanese music. The same logic with the "Rock" music section in a store that has metal too, because they didn't bother having a separate "Metal" section. It's a shame that the term j-rock gets applied to SMG and other Japanese metal bands, but it just means you can popularize "j-metal" for clarification or not be a weeb/asianophile and just label things without a "j-" or "k-" prefix. Though at the height of SMG's success, most of their japanese fans were screaming teenager girls so yeah.
I've been into Sex Machineguns since 1997 when I saw them in Japan. SMG to me is their best overall record. There are no snoozers on it. There's a lot of energy and drive to ever song. And like Archaenon said, 37564 was so disappointing I almost didn't buy this record...glad I took a chance!
Hm, why this shoutbox is so quiet all of sudden?
37564 is cool, except for Death Game live IMO, as if Anchang was tired ;/
Btw It's just me or this name has home hidden meaning?
San-nana-go-roku-yon <--- this surely can't be coinsidential
The band name actually was the idea of Anchang, he liked the Sex Pistols and wanted to create something similiar, but it doesn't matched with the band cuz it's fast and heavy, so he used MACHINEGUNS instead.
