(Rave History 1989: Acid - People are Psychos)

17 Ene 2010, 0:41 de arjeshMy music listening this year was highly influenced and not always positively by how easily music is available now on blogs and how much. I even did a one month downloading embargo but when it ended things went back to before. Other than that I found to my mild consternation that my musical tastes have become in synch with pitchfork.com. I guess I've become more indie in what I like and indie has become electronic. Finally the year for me was marked by the absence of any major new musical direction. My love affair with Sweden and synths continued.
Songs+ that I was obsessed with
Here I have songs where one song led me to other versions, covers, or relatives. This happened a number of times.
1. Love on a Real Train - Tangerine Dream
Williams, Terre's Neu Wuss Fusion aka Terre Thaemlitz) and an interesting history: Global Communication's Maiden Voyage (on 76:14 as 8:07 and 5:23) is obviously inspired and both are inspired by Section VI of Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians. …

15 Sep 2007, 14:04 de sharevariSo it's finally happening. It's been about four months since the rooftop BBQ where me and Sasha started discussing starting a night and Graziela, being absent as per usual, enthusiastically texted back in support of the idea.
Between us, we have slightly different musical tastes, but with all three being die-hard Future Brain regulars, it was somewhat inevitable that italo disco would play a large part in this new night. We did not however, want it to be just about italo, as Future Brain already does a fantastic job of that. The idea is that It's Automatic should bring together a wider range of styles, from old school electro and freestyle to jacking ghetto disko a la Legowelt, to Detroit techno to minimal synth to 80s pop to italo/cosmic disco etc. All with an emphasis on fun and danceability (and cheesy synths ;).
The name, in case you're wondering, is nicked from electro classic It's Automatic by Freestyle.
So, do come down to The Macbeth on Friday 28 September and join in the festivities. …
8 Dic 2006, 11:10 de Staalvlaadyesterday i took out from my closet vinyl boxes filled with old skool flava. mostly chicago / detroit / new york / berlin / munich / cologne / dutch techno and minimal techno sounds. the evolution of all artists' musical taste can be traced back to first house and techno releases in 80's either to detroit or to chicago, depending on their manic or depressive psyche formation. first records that i put on my deck were synewave records. it blew my mind away again. total pack of flashbacks!!! Bluemaxx, Damon Wild, Subtractive Synthesis, The Advent aka Soul Destroyaz, Tim Taylor and his fear of music and missile releases (+1!!!), Steve Stoll and all proper nyc releases and, yeah!, Rhythm Is Rhythm et al
the negative side is my conclusion that techno has recently degraded to pop music (since 1997). there's no resistance left except Underground Resistance. the downside is also this esthetic ghetto of today's minimal techno, take for example Richie Hawtin…
