That for sure, however wonderful Plastic Ono Band and Double Fantasy are (really, really wonderful). I wish we could know how the scales would have balanced from the '80s onwards too. I get the feeling John would have held his own.
Chrilu, yes it is. I've come to think Pipes of Peace as a whole is a pretty great album, one of my preferred Paul offerings, "a portrait of an impeccable craftsman at play" as Mr. S. T. Erlewine over at Allmusic says about it. Been eyeing that deluxe -
New is one of Paul's best solo albums (sez this diehard Wings fanatic). Head & shoulders above a lot of the other (quite nice) recent work. Most of its songs wouldn't have shamed Revolver. (Though granted, Revolver-Paul was more of a balladeer and that's not really what New has to offer.)
