Malcom X was racist, or more accurately afro-centrist, but repented after visiting Mecca. Non-the less he does talk a lot about class and race issues in American society. To just label him as a general racist would be to ignore some interesting ideas he discusses.
MALCOLM X, DID ANYONE WITHIN THIS FORUM MEET MALCOLM X!
WHEN HE FOUND OUT THAT ISLAM AS TAUGHT BY ELIJAH
MUHAMMAD WAS INCORRECT. AFTER HE HAD MADE HIS
PILGRIMAGE TO MECCA AND LEARNED OF THE TRUE TEACHINGS
OF ISLAM - MALCOLM X WAS MAN ENOUGH TO SAY THAT HE WAS
WRONG TO SEE ALL MEMBERS OF THE CAUCASIAN RACE IN ONE
LIGHT AND HE ASKED FORGIVENESS! THE IRAQ WAR IS A TOTALLY
ILEGAL WAR - I BELIEVE THAT THE ADHD PRESIDENT WE HAD
NAMED GEORGE BUSH HAS NEVER ASKED FOR ANY FORGIVENESS
NOR ANY OTHER CAUCASIAN-AMERICAN FOR THE ROTTEN THINGS
THEY STILL DO! WHAT HAS CHANGED? WE HAVE AN AFRICAN-
AMERICAN PRESIDENT THAT THE REPUBLICANS ARE GOING TO
MAKE SURE THAT NOTHING HE DOES WILL EVER GET PASSED!
YOU SAY THAT "HE IS MIXED", WELL ALL AFRICAN-AMERICANS ARE!
WE GOT LIGHT SKINNED AND STRAIGHT HAIR BY JUST BEING HERE!
O.K. BELIEVE THAT IF YOU LIKE!

Harnessing Curiosity, Conquering Fear: Malcolm X as Exemplar
If you want to understand him more, please read The Autobiography of Malcolm X. It's the best resource in understanding his philosophy for it's his words!!
"Malcolm X taught that black people were the original people of the world, and that white people were a race of devils who were created by an evil scientist named Yakub. The Nation of Islam believed that black people were superior to white people, and that the demise of the white race was imminent." <333
Black slave trade by arabic muslims was still going on until just 2 years before Malcolm X's death, the arabic word for black is the same word for slave. I no longer think its confusing that any pro-black person would convert to Islam, I just think it's simply laughable. The only thing dumber would be a black mormon.
"also, there are far MORE slaves worldwide today (sweatshop workers, sex trade, prostitution rings, etc) than there were in the 1800s..this should also be a cause for concern" That's a load of shit. You are using a different definition of slavery in either instance. If we count serf's as slaves, which we certainly should given your definition then your claim is completely false.
"Also, don't try to compare North American slavery to slavery in the Muslim world that predated it. It was NOTHING like it. there were no mass LYNCHINGS for one." Slavery is slavery and over the many hundreds of years of Islamic slave practices I doubt they constantly adhered to the occupational guidelines you put forth. The Bible has guidelines for keeping slaves too, if these weren't used in America why would you assume that the teachings of the Koran regarding slaverly would be kept to? There were no mass lynchings perhaps (probably just mass stonings of raped women and the like) not however to suggest that there is not racial killings either today or historically in the Muslim world is ridicules.
why do you think malcom changed from the NOI to mainstream orthodox Islam after his pilgrimage to Mecca? Also, don't try to compare North American slavery to slavery in the Muslim world that predated it. It was NOTHING like it. there were no mass LYNCHINGS for one. You're asking good questions, now try to find good answers. One of those would include: the rights of a slave in Islam- how they had to be treated as an equal member of the family in terms of food, clothing, shelter, etc. and in many cases other people thought they WERE a part of the family. Also, although slavery was definitely an economic tool for the world, the best thing you could do in Islam is to free a slave.
I'm not confused about what a great man Malcolm X was, just that how black power dudes can convert to islam change their last name (slave name) in order to rebel or free themselves from white people. When its the muslims who'd established slave trading in the area allowing the europeans to enslave africans and bring them to America. It's basically like saying fucking you modern day slavers, I'm siding with my traditional slavers. If you want to be pro-black convert to a traditional african religion.
AppleKabukiSuri: yes, probably you're confused...
Here is not about who enslaved more or who enslaved less, and not to justify anybody, we already know what happens when politics meets any religion and we still don't learn about it...
Here is about a man who gave inspiration to his generation and many others not related to religion. Islam and history is the context but no the whole thing. It's about bravery, eloquence and dignity.
