"I wake on Brighton promenade. The sea and the sky are the exact same shade of grey, and stood on the beach I feel like I’m at the edge of the world. Exactly the sort of imagery that would complement my maudlin demeanour, were it not for the fact that I’m flanked by crazy golf courses. Isn’t this where Ann Quin walked into the sea? Brighton has the most choice for vegan food within the smallest walking distance I’ve ever experienced. Our friend Jason shows us the sights. He’s started dressing like Michael Jackson. No Age and Times New Viking arrive late afternoon and the atmosphere is great – they seem excited to be here. (GC!)"

hmmmmm this band is the best ever but i havent heard hello sadness or no blues yet.... romance is boring is the shit. i like how hold on now, youngster set everyone up for like "yea this is a happy indie pop band" and then everything after just fucked it up i love it
Wow, someone else who feels the same way about the latest Los Campesinos!... What is wrong with you, dikiz?! Nonetheless, welcome to our apparently very exclusive club! Please, have a cigar! Or a sausage, if that's more your thing.
IMO hello sadness > no blues > romance is boring > we are beautiful, we are doomed > ???? > hold on now youngster. probably because my introduction to them was 2010, "we've got your back" and "straight in at 101," i never really listened much to the earlier albums and don't have the nostalgia associated with them ¯\\_(シ)_/¯
LC! have been gloomy from their debut album onwards. Tales of sorrow and despair are what they excel at and that, combined with not a sugar but an angst-fueled, youthful rush and great musical inventiveness, makes WAB, WAD their best album. If only they would again approach the layered beauty of You'll Need Those Fingers for Crossing...
"I think HON,Y is my least favorite LC! album. It just sounds to sugary and cheerful"... Well, that's exactly how I like my Campesinos! to be, and not the progressively gloomier thing they're becoming, album after album. BRING BACK THE SUGAR RUSH, YOU BASTARDS!!
At this point, having been listening to, and being a fan of, LC! for almost five years, I think HON,Y is my least favorite LC! album. It just sounds to sugary and cheerful, though I understand the lyrics are anything but.
No Blues is the album of the century. Or of the millennium. Or of human existence. But seriously, every song is great and the lyrics and music are the best Gareth and Tom have ever written. Been listening to most of the back catalog again too ("an everyday disaster, a bread and butter tragedy") and like the back half of Hello Sadness way more than I initially did, think We Are Beautiful is probably the best of the two 'early' albums, and don't really like Romance Is Boring that much (though I like All's Well That Ends, a.k.a. the acoustic versions of all the best songs on that album). More opinions.
