29 Dic 2011, 17:08 de MichaelLeSuerMostly due to a slew of disappointing releases from bands that I expect much more from, for me 2011 was definitely a year for expanding my taste. Fortunately there were at least 50 songs that were really good and you should look them all up. I could make a zip of them but I probably won't.

2 Ene 2011, 14:26 de FidgitalHappy New Year! As every year, I'd like to share with you my favourite albums for 2010. I realize the album format is in decline, but I still love it. And this year, we had no shortage of great records. I've kept the list to the 20 I loved the most.
#1 - Robyn "Body Talk" - This has been hailed by everyone as an electro-pop masterpiece. Even though I liked the first two EPs (Body Talk Pt. 1 and 2) a lot, this record still floored me. Great pop songs like "Dancing On My Own", "Time Machine", "Hang With Me" and "Call Your Girlfriend" sit side-by-side with hard-hitting club numbers like "None Of Dem" and "We Dance To The Beat". Robyn's voice does tough-yet-vulnerable better than anybody else's.
#2 - School of Seven Bells "Disconnect From Desire" - Icy and ethereal upbeat dance-rock with beautifully disaffected vocals from the Deheza sisters. It's hard to pick favourites but "Windstorm"…

2 Ene 2011, 5:36 de weejayI don't usually write about music, because I'm not that good at it. I don't usually make lists of the best music from a year, because I seem to take a while to catch up with new music, often a good five years. This year has been different, though. I have been making more of an effort to keep up with music, and, more to the point, freakytrigger have just asked for readers to submit their top 20 tracks of the year, and I felt like joining in.
After a few weeks investigating anything I hadn't listened to yet, I've come up with a, um, top 37. The top 20 will be submitted, the other 17 are here because I like 37 tracks and it's my blog, my rules.

28 Dic 2010, 0:38 de dwupton1As usual, compiled using my own skewed sense of logic as to what constitutes a UK single release. And Gossip, because it was just too good not to include. They released in it Germany! It has a video! Fuck you.
