• Losing A Whole Year

I know it's really lame to still listen to 3eb sometimes, but I have to admit....

    I still do.

At one point, I knew everything you could have possibly ever wanted to know about Third Eye Blind. I had pictures of the band all over my wall, I had everything they ever put out and then some. My friend who lived in New Jersey at the time, Sarah Knight made me 2 CDs full of demos, b-sides, and live tracks. This is before I had a CD burner on my home computer way back in the late 90s - haha.

They had some pretty good demos {Wake For Young Souls} and then when it came out on Out of the Vein, they fucked up that track horribly. It sounded like it belonged in a Disney movie as opposed to the bittersweet song that it was.

Actually, when that record came out, the first time I listened to it, I remember wanting to throw it out of my then-boyfriend Ben's car window. He thought it was their best album to date... {Then again, he does like Jamie Collum and John Mayer..... UGH.} Listening to that record now, I still hate it. …

Yeah, I know - it's a stupid name for a band, but it is what it is.

Cousin Kevin is the band that Kevin Cadogan, the guitarist from Third Eye Blind, created after he was ousted from 3eb back in about 2000 or so. {Apparently, they left him at Sundance - but that doesn't make sense to me.} Kevin has changed the band name a few times - initially, it was called "Bully", then "Cadogan", and then somehow "Cousin Kevin", blatantly ripping off a song by The Who. I guess he figured it worked.

Kevin Cadogan has written some really amazing music over the years. At least, it's amazing to me. You know how you have artists that just hit you? You can't believe that someone wrote something that relates so well to you... Kevin Cadogan helped write two albums that changed my life forever - Third Eye Blind's debut album and then "Blue" in 1999. "Out Of The Vein" was mostly Stephan Jenkins' egotistical "look at me! I'm poetic!" shit that wasn't…
