  • July Mixtape: Connect the Dots

    8 Jul 2008, 4:24 de laura_mac

Oh my goodness. This mixtape has caused me more grief...and not actually in the song selection (with which I'm rather happy), but in the title and artwork. I could not decide what to call it and therefore couldn't come up with a suitable image. I finally figured out a title I liked, but I played around with fonts for HOURS until I finally gave up and decided to go for a PBS NOVA-kind of feel. Simplistic (read: boring) I know, but I was sick of fiddling with photoshop.

On to the theme, which I did not follow this month. The idea here is that we were revisiting some of the group's previous themes to give new members the chance to try out some of the more popular ones. The theme chosen was "Soundtrack of My Life," but I felt like I had exhausted that option (if you'd really like to hear the soundtrack of my life, look for it here). Instead, I redid another previous theme, which involved concocting a playlist in which the last word of each song is the first word of the next song. …
  • Feist 06-01-2008 - I feel it all oder "Guten Danke"

    13 Jun 2008, 21:36 de perduto

Sun 1 Jun – Feist, Lawrence Arabia

  • One Year of Mixtapes (Just for YOU)

    29 Abr 2008, 4:22 de laura_mac

So, I first would like to acknowledge pzantingh, also of the Monthly Mixtape community, from whom I brazenly stole this brilliant idea. The thing is, I make these mixtapes every month to send to one person. Occasionally, I'm proud enough of them to post them on the community board, but I still feel that they're being wasted to a certain extent. Also (to a lesser extent), I want the constructive criticism that inevitably comes from exposing your work to the much wider audience of musical sticklers that is Last.fm. Finally, a blog of this kind gives me the chance to make some of that cool cover art that everyone seems to like so much.

A couple of caveats: I won't tell you which ones are which, but there are definitely some of these mixes I'm more proud of than others. Looking back, there are definitely some things I would have changed, but I've put them up in their original condition, warts and all. You will also notice that there is no mixtape for November of last year. …
  • Top 50 artists questions

    19 Abr 2008, 3:42 de ikefox

Yeah, I'm a sucker for an excuse to write about music that I like.

    Top Artists.
(I don't listen to a huge amount of music while on my computer. As a result, I have a lot of ties and some very large ones at that. Disputes are settled by rule of I'll pick whichever one I want to write about, fools.)

    1. How did you get into 31?
Röyksopp was recommended to me by friends and last.fm, finally I relented to listen to some and I really liked them.

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
We Have a Map of the Piano. It's still one of my very favorites by them, and I actually remember hearing it for the first time very well. It was late at night and when I heard that track, I immediately downloaded Finally We Are No One and listened to it as I went to sleep. Still my favorite album, too.

    3. What's your favourite lyric by 29?
    Thom Yorke - A Rat's Nest
    clicks on the phone.
    I cannot help you.
    caught by own worm.
    caught in a rat's nest.
    eat own young.
  • Festa Clarix, 3.4.8

    6 Abr 2008, 6:29 de acoxxxta

Eu comecei a tocar tipo 00:45, no Espaço Hombu.

Vanguart - Just to See Your Blue Eyes See
As pessoas pareciam estar querendo dançar.

    Feist - Sea Lion Woman
Adoro a entrada de Sea Lion! FIcou ótima com o Vanguart. É climática, instigante, cool, dançante. A música toda. …

  • My 25 Favorite CDs of 2007

    30 Dic 2007, 9:38 de Mozo78

I had a great time discovering and listening to music in 2007. An excellent crop of new records were released in the past twelve months, and with the guidance of so many new information sources -- music blogs, editorially-heavy web merchants like emusic and boomkat.com, and especially my valued friends on last.fm -- I was inundated with new material all year long.

Here's my list of the records that provided the greatest listening thrills in 2007:

    1.Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha

After much anticipation, I was immediately impressed by this record when it arrived last March. Although the opening five-track sequence of its predecessor Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs was simply impossible to outshine, this record struck me as more consistently great from start to finish, with so many splendid sonic flourishes and fantastic songs. There are so many textural and melodic details in the music (filled by Bird's trademark fiddle…
