  • Aaaah, the atmosphere! The audacity! The weight of the words!
  • Agree with most that's been said here so far. Really warm sound, smooth and well played throughout. Sure, the theme is obvious on some of the tracks but for the most part also enjoyable and meaningful even if you're not a devout christian or anything.
  • Great production and funky jams. The lyrics aren't that good on Dylan's standards, but his singing is more focused on serving the songs musically than delivering thoughtful text, so it's OK.
  • Pick Withers, drummer: "We recorded at Muscle Shoals with Barry Beckett and Jerry Wexler producing. Jerry was like the football coach; he had a tremendous presence, one of the great icons of the R&B era. He used to tell us fantastic stories and anecdotes over dinner! ... I was only with [Dylan] for ten days but I think he was pleased with what I did. I learnt something during that session about recording and keeping one's integrity."
  • This album is becoming a steadfast companion... 34 listens in and I feel like we've only just made it past small talk.
  • If only they played this shit in church, I'd be there every sunday.
  • For some really cool insight into the album, check out Comment #7 on this blog post:
  • One of my favorite things about Slow Train Coming is the combination of Bob's sweetest, slickest studio sound with his most intense and urgent lyrics. It makes the listening experience shockingly powerful (as well as pleasant!).
  • Like many of us, BD was swept up in the Jesus Movement of the 70s. And like many of us his beliefs seemed to evolve as "more light was revealed". I have fond memories of this album. The best one of his Jesus period. Mark Knofpler's guitar is the master stroke of the sound of this album. Slow Train, Going To Change My Way Of Thinking, When You Gonna Wake Up and When He Returns... those songs just kick butt. I think the cover art is outstanding, too.
  • nothing has swayed my opinion on this one. pretty great album.
