So, I think I've been running out of indie steam. As my charts have indicated, I am just starting to pile up a few of my top artists. There are only so many times you can play a single album I think. And... here's the kicker. So much of the more popular indie bands that keep on getting recommended to me aren't tickling my fancy. I was told to check out the Arctic Monkeys
, and they, for the most part, just sound like that North England/Scotland sound. It's all personal taste, but really.
So, I've been delving into other stuff.
I picked up my occasional copy of the Wire, a wholly pretentious magazine out of England that's into the more avant garde and such. They often include their excellent compilations of bizarre music, the Wire Tapper, with an issue. So, from this English magazine, I found out about a Vancouver project named Secret Mommy
. The fellow goes around with his handmade condenser mics and records in the field. He's processed sounds from dance studios, day cares and tennis courts, and made a dance album out of it all. …
