a group dedicated to the great cambodian 60's/70's rock 'n' roll singers. come fourth to enthuse/share and celebrate

" During the 60's and early 70's, as the war in Vietnam threatened its borders, a new music scene emerged in Cambodia that took Western rock and roll and stood it on its head-creating a sound like no other.

Cambodian musicians crafted this sound from the various rock music styles sweeping across America and England, adding the unique melodies and hypnotic rhythms of their traditional music. The beautiful singing of the renowned female vocalists became the final touch that made this mix so enticing.

As the peasant Khmer Rouge army closed in on the capital city of Phnom Penh, Cambodian rock and rollers played at rooftop parties while bombs ignited the evening sky. On April 17, 1975, after taking over the country, the Khmer Rouge began one of the most brutal genocides in history, killing 2 million people - 1/4 of the Cambodian population. Intellectuals, artists and musicians were murdered simply for their status. Only a few miraculously survived to tell their story. "

This kind of songs and culture: reminds me beautiful places forgotten by time: with unforgettable smells, colorful food and in the air, little birds singing.

Just wanted to express my deepest thanks you to the founder & members of this page. My mom has finally taken upon herself to learn how to use a computer and it came as no surprise when the first thing she did was try track down the music from her childhood. She's been searching up and down youtube for khmer music from her era. She is going to be ecstatic when I tell her of this discovery. One million thank yous.

matsflaaten, probably one of Sinn Sisamouth's and Ros Sereysothea's covers. interestingly, they did a duet called "new year's eve". perhaps there's a place to start. it's upbeat, featured in The Golden Voice all the best with your search x

Hello, I am trying to identify a khmer song I have completely fallen in love with, but don't know the name of. I heard it on the night of Chinese New Year on an island in Cambodia. It was a song you could dance to (in fact, everybody did), and I didn't understand the lyrics, but it seemed like a very happy song. I'm 90% sure that it was a duet with both a male and a female singer. This particular song seemed like one of the most popular songs that evening, it was played two or three times. Do you have any idea what song this might be? Thanks in advance for any tips or other help :)
