I was astounded to find Professor Longhair did not have his own fanclub, so here it is! Rooted in, but not confined to, the sounds of New Orleans, our still-beating musical heart.

I actually discovered Longhair with Treme and I'm now looking for great New Orleans music. I'm going to try the connected artists that I still don't know, thanks a lot !

Thanks for the update. I'll admit I'm here because of "Treme" also. Never knew there was so much culture in the United States until I started watching that show.

The Artist Radio is now complete. The new connections brought the total to 507 artists, to which I added similar artists to reach an even 550. Enjoy!

It appears that "Treme" has exerted an even greater influence than two years ago: the proportion of NOLA artists, especially those unknown to the rest of the country and the world, is significantly higher than before. This is not a group whose connections are determined by locale as such: it's the similarity of fan base that determines the web of connections, and in the case of the Crescent City, there is a very strong local component to those fan bases. Many of the artists added have no other group connections, even to other groups with a New Orleans theme.

The last big revamp of the connections and Artist Radio was in 2011, although I seem to have neglected to post a shout about it. At that point the series "Treme" had had a real impact on the music people were listening to and the Similar Artist connections. The newest revamp has just been completed, with a turnover of 106 connections, or just over half. The artists who were replaced in the connections will remain on the Artist Radio, which will expand to include the 106 new connected artists. In some cases, those artists will already be on the radio, which is far larger and more inclusive than the 200 allowed connections. In addition, a number of artists similar to those already connected will be added to make a round number of connections. This is one of the advantages of using a Radio Bot (dummy user ProfessLonghair, whose library constitutes the Prof. L. Artist Radio:the last-fm recommendations are all candidates for addition to the user library / Artist Radio lineup.

The mural has been in one of the main concourses at the Louis Armstong Int'l Airport in Kenner. It was taken down as part of a general renovation last fall, to be restored in time for the Super Bowl... I've been trying to find out whether it has in fact been restored to its place of honor. So far I've found a video of its careful removal, and some yelps about the restoration in general, but as of this moment don't know whether it's back. I've heard NOLA described as "the most efficient, well-run city in the Caribbean"!

Hey all, just a quick question, the top photo which looks it was taken in a church and the art work of all the dear departed New Orleans greats, where is that? Can it be viewed when we are in N'Awlins for JazzFest? Thanks all!

Sugar Boy isn't in the connections, but he is on the Artist Radio, which is not limited in size (Right now there are 423 artists on the playlist). By the way, if you want to explore even further, you can always play ProfessLonghair's Mix Radio instead of his Library Radio.

Thank you Tim for keeping around Robert Johnson Artist Radio, and for all those who are interested in hearing the Blues and nothing but the Blues, come through the picture and have a listen!
