err i might be biased a bit.. some things might not seem so appropriate, but i'm just gonna go ahead and spit them out.

i'll put it into three categories, for your apocalyptic convenience.

    1. stunningly beautiful, crushingly powerful
    A Silver Mt. Zion
    School of Emotional Engineering
    All Angels Gone
    The Evpatoria Report
    Godspeed You Black Emperor
Set Fire to Flames (yes, i am a fan of constellation records)
    Red Sparrowes
    ES Posthumus
    Russian Circles
The Synthetic Dream Foundation (not their techno :| )

    3. sober, moves slow and solemn
    The For Carnation
    Bark Psychosis
The Legendary Pink Dots (beksinski's favorite!)
    Nick Cave (esp. proposition soundtrack)
    Univers Zero

    2. a bit more on the violent side (metal goes here?)
    Mouth of the Architect
dcp (not the rapper... i don't think has him)
    Fields of the Nephilim
    Meshuggah (esp. catch-33)

well, that's what i've dug up at 4:30 in the morning.

  • Thanks, even though I've never heard most of this music, as long as the lyrical themes fit this group I'm going to connect them.
All I really had before was ambient/industrial/metal because that's what I'm familiar with, but I was looking to expand the musical scope here.

  • Die Sektor as well

  • Some of you may enjoy material by Zoviet France, have a listen and see if you think it fits. I can suggest particular albums if you like.

All these guys have some produced some free stuff.

Mika Björklund on Webbed Hand Records

Aegri Somnia on Kaos Ex Machina & Dark Winter

    Formication [homepage]

  • I was just listening to The Peoples Republic Of Europe - they have some nice dark ambient stuff. They do rhythm noise as well, which might not fit for moody ambience, but it's still nice and dark nonetheless. The actual dark ambient stuff is good though.

hi, this may fit here... although this release may be more akin to the sun breaking through the sulfur clouds for a moment...

    Game music

Try maybe some games too...Vampires:Bloodlines,Darkness Within 2,CB Undying,CB Jericho.Great music.

Reason not to search the damnation around, pain and illusions in the dark, when face with mirror eyes burn in shadows of the stairs searching for nothing less and inside the gut of your own ring. Band of gold that is harder than shackles of titan, on skin burning flesh, bone and soul.Freedom to choose, freedom to die, freedom to be...
  • Saviour Machine.

They did a CD trilogy ("Legend") on the end of the world.

    Sorrow ever awaits on joy,

It's said that eating the flesh of a man will give the other that man's strength.

You need dark ambient stuff. In particular, Steve Roach, Numina, Vir Unis, Phelios, Empusae, Gustaf Hildebrand, New Risen Throne, Cymatic Scan, Amon, Oöphoi, Rapoon. All really good for that wasteland mood.

By the way, I REALLY don't see how post-rock groups like Godspeed, Silver Mt. Zion etc. are in any way post-apocalyptic. They're swelling, uplifting, euphoric. That doesn't describe post-apocalyptic life very well. It would be absolute hell.
