"You must find your dream, then the way becomes easy. But there is no dream that lasts forever, each dream is followed by another, and one should not cling to any particular one." - Demian

everything here is just the same as what he wrote in his book. I feel I'm just the character H.H.

I think that might result from the fact that Demian deals with a topic that has since been intensely explored in contemporary culture - the pursuit of transcendence beyond the realm of religion. Nowadays, the problem lost the significance it once had and thus may appear a bit too abstract at times. It is neither as vivid nor perpetual as subject of personal development being the focus of Siddhartha and Steppenwolf. That's my opinion at least.

both siddhartha and steppenwolf have changed my life. demian was an insightful read as well, although i didn't feel as close to it as i did the others. hesse is brilliant, nonetheless.

Cheers to all fellow-Hesse-fans! Now that all 105 of us have decided to join this honourable group, don't you think it would be fun to actually start some Hermann-related discussion in the forum? If "Narcissus and Goldmund" changed your life, tell us about it, I'd love to hear this story! Also, I officially admit to Goldmund being my alter ego... for all his independence, sensuality and naïveté.

I've read almost all books from Hesse... the only one i still need to read is The Glass Bead Game... I have it at home already, maybe will read it this winter. I have heard it is a difficult book. I think people said it was ironical or sarcastic...something like that.

I've recently finished Demian, and found myself in more than one occasion reflected in Sinclair's thoughts and feelings towards life and existance... it was a beautiful surprise, to find another piece of my own being, written a long long time ago by this incredible author (:
