    Artist Connection Suggestions

    Since there is a new "government" in power, i invite you all to suggest new artist connections for our Dire Straits group. We'll add them. :)

    Bands or solo-artists they had gigs with, or later on following band projects of ex-members, such as of Mark Knopfler... whatever one may think of.

    Dire Straits Mark Knopfler | Austria Lower Austria
    "Mark Knopfler has an extraordinary ability to make a Schecter Custom Stratocaster hoot and sing like angels on a Saturday night, exhausted from being good all week and needing a stiff beer." Douglas Adams.
  • What about JJ Cale. He was a great inspiration for Knopfler and you can hear Cale's sound back in the laid back and minimalistic style of Knopfler.

    Bob Dylan would probably be good, due to Sultans of Swing resembling his style so immensely.

    Of course, if you wanted random artists.... oh, say;

    Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Van Halen, The Who, ZZ Top, Yes, etc.

    I could go on; those are completely random.

    Well, in case of Pink Floyd - didn't they play together with the DS on Live Aid '85?

    Don't forget to add Chet Atkins (had a project with Mark) and the Nothing Hillbillies (also Mark with Chet Atkins and some others).

    Added Sting because of his vocals to Money for Nothing on Live Aid '85, and of course several suggestions from above. :)

    Did they play together with Queen on one occasion?

    dont think they played together as such, but still, queen are well good

  • The song "Money For Nothing" was written by Mark Knopfler & Sting. So Sting is not only the vocals, he`s songwriter, too. :)

    Emmylou Harris should be added to.
    David Knoplfer for sure.

    And Tony Joe White. He recorded the album "Uncovered" in 2006 and Knopfler appeared there in the song "One bad thought". By the way JJ Cale and Eric Clapton appeared on this album too so there're a lot of artists that have similar style there.
