    Sat 3 Dec – Homebake

This writer’s first Homebake brings gorgeous weather and chilled vibes, making it a worthy companion to the recent Harvest series – albeit with the best-in-years Australian/New Zealand bill. The Domain is still filling up when I arrive shortly after midday, which allows for ample time to cruise around the sunlit site and locate the best shaded spots.

Fronted by the impossibly youthful Brooke Addamo, Melbourne’s Owl Eyes have the onlookers at The Dome shimmying along to their breezy indie-dance-pop, with Raiders being a surefire crowd-pleaser. The reception for that number, however, is trumped by the reaction stirred by the radiant take on Foster The People’s overplayed Pumped Up Kicks (featuring a xylophone lead break).

Trimmed down to a trio and debuting a new drummer, former rock & roll darlings The Vines pretty much rehash their Splendour set at the Main Stage. The scarily pale Craig Nicholls looks less puffy than a few months ago and even partakes in some “armed & dangerous” moves; alas…
