I was hoping for a few more uptempo and even memorable tracks on the album.. exquisite corpse was so good but after only a few listens, it's hard to imagine 'the fool' coming close.. hopefully it'll get loads better on repeat listens and that seeing them this friday my reignite my excitement for them...
I just love how one song on the new record (like Undertow, for instance) can have a real light tone like a more instrumental Beach House, and the next song (bees) can have a real dark tone, like a all female Sabbath cover
bottom line, this shit is real good
If Godflesh’s first album was The Cure’s Pornography on Quaaludes, The Fool by Warpaint is Lush on opium and codeine. Check out our review on Groovemine.com, PLUS FREE MP3 'Undertow' HERE: http://www.groovemine.com/rantsraves_review_warpaint_the-fool
NPR selects Undertow as their Song-of-the-Day along with a nice write-up. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130693015&sc=nl&cc=sod-20101020 It's been my own personal song-of-the-day since I first heard - when I'm not playing it, it's stuck in my head!
"Seldom does a debut album exceed all of its pre-release hype, but The Fool is a rare case. Its one of the year’s most engaging, feeling-fueled albums and certifies Warpaint as one of 2010′s predominant breakout artists." http://www.bingelistening.com/reviews/warpaint-the-fool/
Why would they put the EP songs on the album? They've already released them. People can listen to those songs whenever they like. There's a different vibe here, not as immediate, but it's got soul and I like it.
