This one reminds me a bit of early Cluster, though I doubt either group was really aware of the other at this point. Anyway, it's much different from the classic albums of Tangerine Dream, but it's a fantastic debut with plenty of fractured, spaced-out jamming, perfect for headphones.
"Without doubt one of TD's best albums, superb." But why? I don't get this stuff, it's formless, it's just about impossible to tell what they were trying to do with this album. Besides the obvious "challenge what you think music is" wankery. Or is it just ambient? If so, what makes it better than other ambient? One day this will click with me, or not, in the meanwhile I guess I could try it one more time.
When getting to know TD, the more you put off listening to this album, the bigger the shock will be when you finally do. Having grown accustomed to Tangerine Dream's traditional sound, I was almost let down by this one. It's so different! But the only thing that takes away from it, is the band name. If you didn't know it was TD, it would surely make a better first impression. Nonetheless, I loved it once I overcame the initial shock. :-)
