23. Aug. 2008, 5:25 von PurpleCow17That silly bug in the Zen Vision:M + only listening to Christian music because of being part of NLDC the past year has skewed my Last.fm stats so very very much! I shall have to fix this. Hopefully eventually it'll balance itself all out. In the meantime, I'm catching up on all my showtunes.
However... a brief rundown of some of the songs/albums/artists I've discovered in the last year that I actually like.
Big Yellow Taxi - Yes, I realize I should hate this song. I realize it's terrible musical taste to like it. I don't care.
Alexythmia - Actually, most of Anberlin's stuff is pretty stinking amazing.
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out - What a haunting feel to this song. And for some unknown reason it keeps reminding me of the movie Metropolis...
Baseline - An infectious song by a band that has faded from existence.
Holiday - An infectious silly pop song. We haven't had any good silly pop in a little while.
Holy Rollin' - Partly because I just re-discovered it and it gives me a sense of nostalgia. …

9. Mai. 2008, 19:30 von nDroaeThis is for hurricane_mario (see Sarah Brightman - Running, which contains the hidden track Fleurs Du Mal (Reprise)). I've also done this with Kevin Max - I Went Over the Edge of the World (which contains You), the final tracks of Relient K's first three albums as originally released, etc.
YOU WILL NEED: The CD (or DRM-free MP3s, but then this process is lossy), iTunes or something else that can convert between MP3s and WAVs, and Windows Sound Recorder or something better.
UPDATE: The stripped-down version of Windows Sound Recorder that comes with Vista is completely useless for this. (Yes, it's hard to believe you could strip down something as basic as WSR, but Microsoft has done it; now it can't even open files any more!) Here's a free alternative program: Audacity
Also check out Wikipedia Category: Free Audio Editors.
In iTunes, go to Edit\Preferences\Advanced\Importing and select Import Using WAV encoder. Put in the CD and import the track you want to edit. …

This artist - I mean, American composer of chiefly ballets - exemplifies the issues I'm having with classical music. I bought most of it from eMusic, where you get a 30-minute unbroken cut of a symphony or whatever for 1/10 the cost of the same thing split up into Allegro Vivaces and so on. Naturally, I go for the prior option. The problem is that half-hour tracks take a huge amount of dedication to sit down and listen to, and they don't exactly fit well into playlists. So one of these days I'm hopefully going to split these files and re-compress them at 128K, because the Appalachian Spring Suite is seriously taking up 100Mb and I've only listened to it twice. Or I could just keep it on my external drive.
I’ve taken to scrobbling fake 31-second tracks with the titles of movements along with such long tracks to even out the submission count somewhat.
