I'm very much not a Christian myself, but I absolutely love Medieval and Renaissance era music. It's so beautiful. Very passionate and deep feeling. It's a shame some people probably think too much about the religious aspect and don't sit down to appreciate the music for the sake of the music!
"it's a shame the renaissance is so overlooked, probably the brightest musical era" I agree, it is unparalleled for depth. For me, renaissance is perhaps the only musical genre that actually sounds richer the more I listen, rather than ever growing stale or boring.
Heh, everybody seems to like El Grillo. If you want underrated, this is perhaps the most underrated person in Western music, at least on last.fm. The man of subtle counterpoint, merely detectable similar themes before Bach came to be the master of counterpoint. Truly a great artist of who has explored the depths of purely vocal music of that period. Also, I agree with arlaqin, Renaissance is criminally overlooked for some reason. I guess it's because people don't want to dig further in time than the Common Era music (Baroque, Classicism, Romanticism, etc.).
