So This Is Goodbye (2006)
It's safe to say that I had high expectations for this, the second album from Junior Boys. After all, Last Exit, with its perfect blend of futuristic beats and pop vocals, is certainly one of my favorite records from the past several years. However, when I found out that Johnny Dark, the man apparently responsible for that futuristic sound on their first album, had departed the group, I got a little worried. What if on this next go around, Junior Boys sounded a little too much like a retro act?
Well, my hand-wringing here was totally unnecessary, as Junior Boys managed to completely outdo that previous release with So This Is Goodbye, and they did it in a most surprising way. …

On the surface, "In The Morning" seems like a bit of an odd choice for the lead-off single for the new Junior Boys album. It doesn't really have a defined verse/chorus/verse structure, and the closest thing it has to a "hook" is the repetition of "too young" throughout the song. Not that I really expect or need any of those things to get enjoyment out of a song, but I got to thinking about it the first few times I heard the track. There was something about it that just made the song feel a little difficult to grasp onto at first.
However, I kept coming back to it. And, you know, suddenly, there it was, sticking in my head, running through my brain. At this point I realized that Junior Boys had done it again; they'd crafted yet another perfect electronic pop gem in a wonderfully non-obvious way. The song is just packed full of tiny moments of brilliance. …
