  • I have John Mayall's 'Turning Point' which dates from the same period as the Blues Jazz Fusion album, and which marked the start his experimental period - i.e. drummerless, and replacing Mick Taylor with a saxaphonist. I'm quite fond of the album, but prefer the likes of 'The Blues Alone' and 'Blues From Laurel Canyon', which have both great songs and great playing. Here - with Turning Point - the songs are sometimes a poor excuse to unleash the instruments in free flow. Great playing, but it needs to be because more often than not there's not much else! However I will say that So Hard To Share from 'Turning Point' is a great track.
  • Great Harmonica!

  • John Mayall OBE is celebrating his 75th birthday this month (on November 29th). He is surely Macclesfield's finest; the UK's best and one of the world's leading blues musicians. I saw him in Norwich about ten years ago, when he did a really excellent set. What struck me was the quality of the playing, and the persevering power in his voice. The world is a richer place for his long and distinguished careeer.
