From people on TV
After their tea when life begins again
They'll be happier than me

  • THAT. SHE'S JUST. SHE JUST QUOTES THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO QUIETLY IN THE BACKGROUND. WHAT.
  • *sings excerpt from the communist manifesto softly in the background*
  • There’s misery in all I hear and see from the people on TV. After their tea when life begins again, they’ll be happier than me. There are a thousand meals being made on Saturday from the view I saw today. I took a bet inside the launderette with a girl from Wallasey.
  • Love this song. <3
  • How could I *not* love this track? It marries a twee melody with word play, philosophy, and lust. If you are looking for a pp_f track, this is it.
  • oh, the piano.it's incredible how b&s take some of their best songs and put them as b-sides.
  • I just... wow. I died daydreaming. :)
  • The cutest inspired comic was made about this in the B&S Anthology: Put the Book Back on the Shelf.
  • QUESTION:Hi, I'm Lucio, a philosophy professor, and I'm mailing from Bom Despacho, Brazil. I wonder if you could explain the meaning of the lovely song Marx and Engels. I love the song and I would like to understand the relationship between B & S and Marxism...The words at the end of the song are part of the Communist Manifesto? ANSWER: Hi Lucio, There might be a connection with B&S and Marxism, but I must admit that that wasn't much to do with the song. When you start a political course at Glasgow University the first book that you have to read is a Marx and Engels reader. The boy in the launderette is interested in the girl, but the girl is more interested in her Marx book. Hence she is heard to quote liberally from the book while the boy mentally removes her smock and her CCCP t-shirt. Stuart
  • Perhaps my favorite song of theirs, gun to head.
