the thing with britpop i'll always remember is bands came and go...their were so many one hit wonders in that period i find myself hearing a song on the radio every so often and wondering exactly what happened to such and such...but then quickly realising they only really had one hit (i.e babybird) addition to thread:

kula shaker - sound of drums
    the lightning seeds - change
    space - neighbourhood
    jamiroquai - virtual insanity

    the holy grail...

cornershop - brimful of asha..i used to really love this song in the summer of '97 and it still sounds great now and is the tune which propelled norman cook aka fatboy slim to superstardom :)

by the way...all the above artists should be added to the connections thingy...all of them pioneers of the britpop era :)

    Pulp - Disco 2000
Mansun - She Makes My Nose Bleed
    Suede - The Drowners
    Placebo - Nancy Boy

I second Sleep, Design for Life, Mulder & Scully & Live Forever too. ^_^ In fact I second most of the songs on this thread, heh.

  • Sleeper - Statuesque.
Me Me Me - Hanging Around or Tabitha's Island.
Anything whatsoever by Suede or Pulp.

Oh, and am I the only person who really dislikes A Design For Life? I absolutely love all of Everything Must Go, except that one song! :/

It was the first song that got me into the Manics so I'll always have fond memories of it, but I don't think it's their best song. That'd go to Motorcycle Emptiness for me. ^_^ Design for Life just sums up the era better than their other songs in my eyes.

I still can't listen to A Design For Life all the way through because it was so overplayed when it first came out. It's a great song, but I'm burned out on it.

Actually the first song that got me into the Manics was Motorcycle Emptiness. But A Design For Life represents more of their unique development process, and in a way I think ADFL was their pinnacle. Besides, it's a great anthem too.

And by the way, I think there has to be at least one song from James in this list. Maybe She's a Star, or Lose Control.. both good songs.

Mansun's 'Wide Open Space' >>>that's the first song that got me into Mansun, and therefore into music! (I didn't like any music before I'd discovered Mansun)
