Last.Fm API Error in Search

  • Last.Fm API Error in Search

    Hello all,
If I use the Scrobbler API to find music I have some error in the search.
For Example for track.search, if I use:

    [Moderation ausstehend]
    the scrobbler return 9 results

    but if I use:

    [Moderation ausstehend]
    the scrobbler return 0 result

and if i complete the song name:

    [Moderation ausstehend]
    the scrobbler return 54 result

    Why?

This is a known bug. I hope last.fm will fix it soon :)

We have a bit better partial matching algorithm recently that is why you can search for "Albach" and find "Albachiara" (This wasn't possible last month).
We index part of the whole name up to a certain number of characters that's why "albachiar" doesn't match (too long).
We only do this for the most popular tracks, that's why you see 9 vs. 54 results.

All these limitations are mostly there to keep things fast and results relevant.
If search times won't be affected we might relax these constraints in the future.
As for now I hope this explains your search results. :)

Is it wired to Apache Solr?

yes, at least to the way we configure it. It is not a limitation of Solr if that is what you mean.
