Vinyl Scrobbler for Android

  • Vinyl Scrobbler for Android

    Hello fellow vinyl aficionados,

I'd like to announce to you (probably most of the target audience) the Android app "Vinyl Scrobbler". The idea is similar to CogScrobbler, and it pretty much does what it says on the tin, with one (so far) killer feature:

    It scans barcodes.

So the general idea is: when you flip the record, or the record ends, you take out your phone, scan the barcode, confirm, and voilà, scrobbled.

  • it's not working well. Most of artists names in discogs have sufix with number (ex. Roxsetta (2)). And that name (with number) is scrobbled...

  • Thanks for pointing that out. I've fixed the problem and uploaded a new version, and updated the link and barcode above.

  • New version: Vinyl Scrobbler 0.2

I've just release a new version of Vinyl Scrobbler. The new version 0.2
    • Displays a list of recently scrobbled records (so you don't have to scan every barcode again and again and again)
    • Uses "The Clash" (usual on Last.fm) instead of "Clash, The" (usual on Discogs)

    Wrong link

Confirmed, the link ending "VinylScrobbler-latest.apk", which is also the QR Code's target, isn't working.

    A working link is:
    http://code.jollybox.de/pub/vinylscrobbler/VinylScrobbler-0.2.apk

Anyways, thanks for that very great app!

    Greetings,
    Felix

  • Ah, sorry about that. I've fixed the symlink. The QR should work now.

    I'm glad you like it.

    Scrobbling future tracks

Reminds me. A feature I'd love to have is scrobbling tracks to be listened in the future. Either by delaying scrobbling on the device (which could be hard in stand by mode?), or by just posting songs with future timestamps.

(The latter one should be possible. I once had the problem of having the wrong timezone setting on my computer, so all the songs I scrobbled appeared as being submitted 1 hour in the future. last.fm even listed the songs with "in 43 minutes" etc.)

Reason for that wish: I don't want to care about scrobbling anymore as soon as I started listening.

  • @condor87:
Thanks for the feedback. I don't like the idea of simply setting the timestamp in the future. It may be (or have been in the past) possible, but it's certainly not intended by last.fm. However, scrobbling the record track-by-track in the background is definitely doable (I doubt it would be on the iPhone, but Android is flexible) though not trivial. I'm also currently unsure how best to integrate that into the user interface.
I'll see what I can do.
In the mean time, I've entered it on the github issue tracker: https://github.com/tjol/vinylscrobbler/issues/6

Works great! Thank you so much for this app! Now I don't have to make a playlist to play on mute while I sleep to scrobble my vinyls! :D

    Hi there!
I don't hang around here that much anymore, but I still make music. Under the name Riʞky I have released an album called Dissolution on Bandcamp. Hope you like it!
  • Hi guys.

At long last, I've released an update to the Vinyl Scrobbler app, which is now available via Google Play.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.jollybox.vinylscrobbler

The main new feature here is that you can now scrobble in the future, as condor87 suggested.

Hi again. It is an absolutely amazing app! It initially worked well but now every search says "cannot comprehend data".
Is there a solution to it? That would really make my day :)
