Opening the top twenty is a band that have certainly paid their dues. The Quin twins have been making music for nearly 15 years, first as teenagers in the Canadian city of Calgary, then as a cult band on the U.S. indie circuit with albums If It Was You and So Jealous earning them a hardcore following.
With their sixth album Sainthood, released at the very end of 2009, Tegan and Sara continued to edge into mainstream recognition. Their off-kilter power pop took an electronic turn, producing jagged, ecstatic numbers like 'Hell', your most listened track so far after 630,000 scrobbles.
Even with over 5.5 million album plays, no new material from Sainthood managed to break into the Tegan and Sara's Top 10, as fans continued to scrobble favourites like 'Where Does The Good Go' and 'Walking With A Ghost', the track which propelled the twins' career after The White Stripes covered it in 2005.
In August the duo released a mammoth vinyl box set made up of five albums and nine demo tracks from their huge back catalogue. The twins rounded off their year with shows in India, Australia and New Zealand, and are planning to release a DVD documenting the Sainthood tour.
