One of the most powerful women in pop, Britney Spears launched her comeback campaign late in 2008 with the release of Circus, continuing the trail with covershoots, hit singles and the all-conquering world tour. The Mississippi native played 97 dates to almost one million people, and took more than $83,000,000 at the box office. The huge appetite for her glossy-pop appears tough to satiate: listeners have played tracks from Circus more than six million times. Not bad for someone the tabloid press came close to writing off at the start of 2008.
Spears cast personal problems aside to record Circus, her sixth studio album. 'Womanizer' was the first single, released in Autumn 2008, and you went crazy for it, swiftly followed by the naughtily titled 'If U Seek Amy'. Despite that, she has vied for the top spot of 'Most Unwanted' with Katy Perry, Rihanna and Lady GaGa over the last twelve months. Does the phrase 'Guilty Pleasure' mean anything to any of you?
The Singles Collection was released in November, wrapping up a very successful year for the starlet. Spears currently has no tour plans announced for 2010, but expect to see her on the gossip pages soon.
